Univar breaks fund-raising record at Charity Golf Day

Brussels, Belgium29th July 2010 – Univar, a leading global chemical distributor, as part of its U+stainability programme, supports a number of charities around the world. However this year’s Charity Golf Day has broken all previous records and raised over £32,000 for The Prostate Project, a UK based charity researching prostate cancer.  The tournament between employees, suppliers and customers, held on 24th June, involved 75 golfers from the UK, across Europe, the US and Dubai, all playing for the coveted Univar U+ trophy.

The golf tournament, the fourth such event, was followed by a charity auction, dinner and raffle. The auction item raising the most for the charity was tickets to the Masters 2011 which went for £3,500. Also auctioned were tickets to see Manchester United, Chelsea, the England vs. South Africa rugby match and hospitality tickets for the first day of the Oval test match. Signed golfing memorabilia was also available.

“It has been very rewarding to raise funds for such an important cause,” said David Jukes, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Univar Europe, Middle East and Africa. “Our commitment to the local community and those less fortunate than ourselves is one of the things that makes Univar such a special place to work.”

Thermphos, winners of U+ trophy 2010The event was held at the Forest of Arden Marriott Hotel and Country Club in Warwickshire on  the Arden Championship Course. Thermphos International, a regular supporter of Univar’s fundraising events, won the golf tournament.
