Univar introduces comprehensive range of natural and botanical products to its personal care portfolio

Brussels, Belgium – 4th November 2010 – Univar, a leading global chemical distributor, announced today plans to expand its Personal Care offering by adding a comprehensive range of natural and botanical products to its portfolio in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The new product range, consisting of essential oils, vegetable extracts, botanical extracts and functional blends, will be launched initially in the United Kingdom and Ireland and showcased at Univar’s stand (N° 424) at the SCS Formulate exhibition in Coventry, UK, on 9-10 November. Next year the product range will be rolled out in the rest of the EMEA region.
Univar is proactive in sourcing natural ingredients for customers that wish to offer more sustainable solutions in their product ranges, especially in its key focus markets – food ingredients, pharma, detergents, coatings - and now also for the personal care industry.
Currently the market for botanicals products in the personal care sector is highly fragmented, with a large number of manufacturers and suppliers present. By bringing together a comprehensive portfolio from multiple suppliers and making it available from one source, Univar offers a compelling and valuable proposition to personal care customers looking to develop natural product ranges, while reducing complexity.

The new botanical products are sourced from several different suppliers and include a range of ‘new to Europe’ GMP grade citrus fruit and fruit seed oils (including tomato and cucumber seed oils) and a selection of Brazilian extracts derived from an organic, sustainable source. Visitors to Univar’s stand will be able to try product concept samples, including exfoliating scrub, anti-ageing fluid, body and soothing creams and gels, which have been developed in Univar’s dedicated European Personal Care laboratory. The concept samples have been formulated using both these new natural extracts and other key ingredients from Univar’s extensive Personal Care product portfolio, especially silicones, which provide advanced technical solutions and, at the same time, work very well with natural products.
Univar’s expertise in application development, top-level technical staff and specialised personal care laboratories is available to customers, helping them develop new ways to use these ingredients, enhance existing formulations and find solutions to specific product development issues.
