Brussels, Belgium – 9th December 2010 – Univar, a leading global chemical distributor, announced today the reinforcement of its service to its food, pharmaceutical and personal care customers with the appointment of Catherine Martin as Quality and Regulatory Affairs Leader.
In this newly created role, Ms. Martin will drive compliance with all Univar’s regulatory and quality processes in Europe, including the European GMP directive for the use of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients. Liaising with the commercial teams, Catherine Martin will ensure that customer needs are met throughout EMEA and are fully in line with Univar’s food, pharmaceutical and personal care offerings.
Catherine’s appointment is very timely given the expected changes in legislation being discussed in the draft Falsified Medicines Directive. The support she can offer customers will be invaluable given the recently announced European Univar distributorships for Dow Carbowax Sentry products (which include both Excipient and APIs) and Innophos, Inc calcium phosphate products and new suppliers for highly regulated APIs such as Gharda and RN Laboratories.
An integral part of Ms. Martin’s position over the next few months will be to monitor the progress of the amendments to the European Falsified Medicines Directive and to ensure Univar’s processes are not only up-to-date, but that the respective sector teams are prepared to apply any necessary changes the directive may require.
“We are delighted to promote Ms. Martin as the Quality and Regulatory Affairs Leader,” explains Lee Tsouli, Univar’s Supply Chain and Quality Director EMEA. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in both business management and pharmaceuticals which she has put in practice during the past two decades at Univar.”
"Univar maintains a long-standing and uncompromising commitment to quality and regulatory standards and being a part of this is very exciting for me," says Ms. Martin. "In this new role I look forward to continuing to strive for the highest levels of quality and compliance in all that we do."
Ms. Martin has a background as a pharmacist and holds a Masters Degree in International Business. She joined Univar in 1990 and has held different leadership roles in Supplier and Product Management, specifically in Univar’s Food, Pharma and Personal Care focus industries.
