Univar to distribute MTE’s molecular sieves in Italy

Brussels, Belgium – 21 November 2011 – Univar, a leading global chemical distributor, today announced it has signed a brand new agreement with MTE B.V. (Mulder Tower Equipment B.V) to distribute the company’s molecular sieves throughout Italy, with a particular focus on Univar’s energy customers.
Univar’s agreement with MTE covers two standard types of Catalyst Bed Support Media that act as molecular sieves: the Rest-O-Cat® 55 ceramic inert balls and the Rest-O-Cat® 99 alumina inert balls. These products are part of MTE’s wide product range, consisting of high quality ceramic balls, top layer media , rashing rings, mol sieves and activated alumina, and which are now also available to Univar’s energy customers in Italy.

Molecular sieves work by absorbing and retaining unwanted materials at a molecular level. If a gas or liquid is passed through a molecular sieve, smaller waste molecules will be trapped while the desired product will pass through to be collected on the other side. The Rest-O-Cat® 55 is mainly made up of silicon oxide and alumina oxide and offers low pressure drop, excellent compressive strength and good resistance to thermal shock. Rest-O-Cat® 99 spheres are characterised by their low silica content which is less than 0.2%. The high degree of purity and strength make the product ideal for high temperature and steam applications where leached silica can damage downstream equipment or the catalyst bed. The excellent thermal properties combined with its high density and ability to withstand operating temperatures to 1,800°C, make it a good choice for heat retention or equilibration media.
