Univar and the Community
As part of our Responsible Care Programme Univar takes an active role in getting involved in local communities. From charity walks for Breast Cancer, parachuting 13,000 feet from an airplane for Hospice Foundation, to inviting the mobile unit from Marie Keating Foundation to our site to offer advice and educate our team about cancer awareness.
Univar and Temple Street Children's Hospital
At our Grand Opening on 25th July, 2007 we announced that Temple Street Children's Hospital was nominated by our staff as Univar Ireland's chosen charity. Temple Street Children's Hospital provides an acute paediatric service and specialist paediatric services for children from all over Ireland. The current project for 2007 is the development of a new dedicated Cystic Fibrosis and Respiratory Out-Patient Unit at Temple Street in accordance with international infection guidelines.
Cystic fibrosis is the most common, life threatening and recessively inherited disease in Ireland with an average national yearly incidence of 1 in 1500 live births and a carrier rate of 1 in 20 people in Ireland. There is an urgent necessity for this facility in the hospital as children with CF need to be segregated so that they do not contaminate each other. The cost of this project is estimated at €2.7 million.
During our Grand Opening we presented a cheque for €3,000.00 to Temple Street and raised a further €1,000.00 during the event. We hope that this is the first of many cheques that will be presented to Temple Street Children's Hospital on behalf of Univar.
